Shanghai Electric Signs Agreement for 2,000 MW Sadawi Solar PV Plant

Shanghai Electric Group announced in a statement that it has signed a cooperation agreement for a 2GW Al Sadawi Solar photovoltaic project with MASDAR.

Al Sadawi Solar Photovoltaic Project, which is part of Round 5 of the National Renewable Energy Program (NREP), will deliver a total capacity of 2,000 MW.

Earlier during November 2024, Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar) led consortium, including GD Power of China and Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO), has been awarded the Al Sadawi Independent Power Producer (IPP) project, to be located in the Sadawi Region of Saudi Arabia.(read more)

The power purchase agreement (PPA) was signed with Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC) on a build, own and operate basis.

The project is scheduled to achieve commercial operation in Q2 2027.
