UAE’s Emerge and Sharjah National Oil Corporation (SNOC) have inaugurated “Sana”, Sharjah’s first utility-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) plant — a 60MWp facility now powering SNOC’s Sajaa Gas Plant entirely with clean energy.
The inauguration was held in the presence of H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and President of SNOC, and H.E. Sheikh Mohammed Ahmed Al Qasimi, Vice President of SNOC.
“Sana” is one of the world’s first solar-powered gas processing plants and delivers:
- Over 56,600 tons of CO₂ offset per year
- Electricity for the equivalent of 13,780 homes
- Power to SNOC’s operations, with surplus exported to SEWA
Emerge is responsible for the entire project lifecycle under a Build–Own–Operate–Transfer (BOOT) agreement. It has successfully managed financing, design, procurement, and construction of the project, and will oversee the operation and maintenance of the solar plant for the next 25 years.
