Samsung C&T awarded $1.2 billion Solar Power Project in Qatar

Samsung C&T Corporation’s Construction Division announced that it has been awarded a contract for Qatar’s largest solar power project on EPC basis.

The value of the contract is around $1.2 billion.

The company received a notice of award and signed an agreement with QatarEnergy, the state-owned energy company, for a solar power facility with a total capacity of 2,000MW.

The project is located in Dukan, about 80 km west of Doha, the capital of Qatar, an area known for abundant sunlight. With a capacity of 2,000MW, it is the largest solar power plant in Qatar and represents the largest capacity for a solar project built by a Korean construction company. The site spans 27 square kilometers, nine times the size of Seoul’s Yeouido district (2.9 km²), and will utilize 2.74 million solar panels.

Once completed in 2030, the plant is expected to supply power for approximately 750,000 households, considering Qatar’s high per capita electricity consumption.

Samsung C&T will independently handle all phases of the project, from design to construction. The plant will utilize solar tracking systems to maximize energy generation and advanced inverters designed to operate reliably in Qatar’s high-temperature desert environment, ensuring maximum efficiency.

This Dukan solar project is a core part of Qatar’s Vision 2030, which aims to accelerate energy transition by focusing on renewable energy development. After announcing the project plans last year, bidding began early this year, and Samsung C&T secured the contract through a competitive proposal, citing its successful track record in previous solar projects.
