The Gulf Cooperation Council Interconnection Authority (GCCIA) and the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) signed a strategic amendment to their framework agreement to enhance the resilience of power grids and support their readiness for the evolving energy landscape.
The new amendment expands cooperation on operational flexibility practices, ensures greater economic and reliability benefits for GCC states, and establishes a multi-year roadmap to integrate joint study outcomes into operational and planning strategies. It also focuses on upcoming needs amid the rapid deployment of renewable energy and the expansion of advanced grid technologies.
Both sides noted that the roadmap will boost the ability of GCC grids to withstand weather conditions, improve the efficiency of electricity-storage system operations, develop sustainable energy-security solutions, and enable smart load forecasting through artificial intelligence to boost readiness at regional control centers and enhance reliability.
Under the updated framework, the two sides will also develop resource-efficiency methodologies, conduct regional assessments, and implement advanced analytical studies to improve grid performance, contributing to clean-energy transition goals in GCC states and ensuring the highest levels of economic efficiency and reliability.
