China Power Engineering International Company Announces that, the pile foundation construction officially began at the Oman Ibri Phase III 700 MW photovoltaic (PV) + 150 MWh energy storage power station project site.
The project is developed by Masdar and the EPC general contract is being carried out by a joint venture involving China Power Engineering International, Huadong Engineering Institute, and Hunan Thermal Power Design Institute.
The commencement of the pile foundation marks the full start of on-site PV installation work.
The project is located about 300 km west of Muscat, covering approximately 900 hectares. It uses ground-mounted tracking PV technology with a capacity of 700 MWdc / 500 MWac, paired with a 150 MWh (4-hour) energy storage system. Once completed, it will be connected to the OETC 400 kV grid through a 33/400 kV booster station, helping to optimize the regional energy mix and improve grid stability and peak-shaving capability.
This project is an important renewable energy initiative supported by the Power and Water Procurement Company (PWP) and is a key part of Oman’s “Vision 2040” renewable energy goals. Its construction will increase the share of clean energy in Oman, contribute to a sustainable energy supply system, create local jobs, boost the industrial chain, and serve as an important example of China–Oman green energy cooperation, contributing to global low-carbon development.
