SEPCO3 Announces the Start of Construction for UAE’s 1.5 GW Khazna Solar PV IPP

Shandong Electric Power Construction Corporation No. 3 (SEPCO3) – the EPC contractor of Khazna Solar PV Project announces that, it has held kick-off meeting, marking the official start of the full-scale execution phase of the project. Representatives from the project owner, supervisor, and other participating parties witnessed this milestone.

The Khazna Solar Project is located in the heart of Abu Dhabi, boasting exceptional solar resources. The project is large-scale, encompassing a 1807MW (DC-side) photovoltaic plant, a 33kV/400kV substation, a 400kV ESF switchyard, and 25 kilometers of 33kV overhead power lines. Major works include 9.567 million cubic meters of earthwork, 369,000 photovoltaic support piles, and 2.77 million photovoltaic modules.

Once completed and put into operation, the project is expected to meet the electricity needs of approximately 160,000 households in the UAE, reduce carbon emissions by more than 2.4 million tons annually, effectively enrich the diversity of the UAE’s power grid supply structure, meet the growing industrial and residential electricity demand in the Abu Dhabi region, and be a milestone in helping Abu Dhabi achieve its strategic goal of “50% renewable energy by 2030”.

Guiyang Institute, as a key participant in the closely integrated consortium, was deeply involved in the project construction. Power Construction Oasis Company undertook the design work for key projects such as the plant area and the substation. This project represents an important practice of participating in the international high-end new energy market using a consortium model. Through its implementation, the project not only effectively accumulated experience in the design and collaborative implementation of large-scale overseas photovoltaic and supporting power projects, but also enhanced the company’s system integration capabilities and international contract performance in the new energy field. Furthermore, it provided an important platform for accelerating professional transformation and upgrading, and enhancing core competitiveness in the new energy sector.
