Kuwait Petroleum International (Q8) and Italy’s Eni have signed a strategic agreement to build a state-of-the-art industrial complex for biofuel production in Sicily, Italy. The signing took place during the Kuwait Oil and Gas Show (KOGS 2026), attended by industry leaders and government representatives.
Under the agreement, the new facility will use Eni’s proprietary Ecofining technology to convert vegetable oil waste into 100% renewable biofuel, with an expected annual production capacity of 500,000 metric tons. The complex will produce both hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) biodiesel and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), significantly contributing to decarbonization efforts in road, sea, and air transport.
Q8 CEO Shafi Al-Ajmi described the joint investment as an important milestone in expanding biofuel production capabilities while strengthening the longstanding partnership between Q8 and Eni. The collaboration also aligns with Kuwait Petroleum Corporation’s 2050 energy transition strategy, supporting global climate goals.
The project reinforces both companies’ commitments to sustainable energy solutions and industrial innovation.
