REPDO extended the bid submission date for Round 3 Solar PV Projects

The Renewable Energy Project Development Office (REPDO), Ministry of Energy, Saudi Arabia has extended the bid submission date for Round 3 Solar PV Projects.

For Category A Projects (200MW), the Bid submission date has been extended up to 16 December 2020 from its initial bid submission date of 7 October 2020.

For Category B Projects (1000MW), the Bid submission date has been extended up to 9 December 2020 from its initial bid submission date of 6 September 2020.

REPDO Round 3 is comprised of four Solar PV projects with a combined generation capacity of 1,200 megawatts (MW). The projects, which are located on four sites in the central region of the Kingdom, will be as follows:

Category A: Category A will consist of two projects of total Capacity 200MW (read more)

  • Layla Solar PV IPP with a capacity of 80 MW to be located in the Aflaj Province, approximately 300 km from Riyadh city
  • Wadi Al Dawaser Solar PV IPP with a capacity of 120 MW to be located in the central Province, approximately 600 km from Riyadh city

Category B: Category B will consist of two projects of total Capacity 1000MW (read more)

  • Ar Rass Solar PV IPP with a capacity of 700 MW to be located in the central Province, approximately 420 km from Riyadh city
  • Saad Solar PV IPP with a capacity of 300 MW to be located in the central Province, approximately 80 km from Riyadh city

REPDO is being advised by Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (DIFC Branch) – Lead and Financial Adviser, DLA Piper Middle East LLP – Legal Adviser and Fichtner GmbH & Co. KG – Technical Adviser for this project.

All projects tendered by The Ministry of Energy are 100% IPPs backed by 25-year Power Purchase Agreements (PPA) with the Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC) as offtaker.

Since its inception, The Ministry of Energy, through the  National Renewable Energy Program (NREP), has pre-developed and tendered 2,170 MW of renewable energy capacity in the Kingdom, of which 700 MW was awarded in 2019 and a further 1,470 MW will be awarded in 2020.
