Electricity and Water Authority (EWA), Bahrain awarded the project, “Dynamic Reactive Power Compensation Project”.
The project has been awarded to ABB Technologies WLL, Bahrain.
The value of the contract is BHD 35,406,228.(USD 94,165,500).
Earlier, during February 2021, EWA received proposals from two bidders. (read more)
The tender was issued by EWA during January 2021.
As per the tender notification, EWA would like to Install three 200MVar, 220kV STATCOMs, one at each of the new Hidd, new Riffa and Manama 220kV Substations.
These systems will help to mitigate voltage instabilities and minimize the probability of having blackout and load shedding.
Also, they will help to increase power exchange with other GCC countries through GCCIA.
