Oman invites pre qualifications for two solar IPPs

Oman Power and Water Procurement Company SAOC (OPWP), a member of Nama Group, announced the pre qualification of two (2) solar Independent Power Projects (IPPs) in Oman.

The two Solar projects are Manah Solar I IPP and Manah Solar II IPP.

The projects will be located adjacent to each other at a site in Manah, approximately 150 km from capital city of Oman, Muscat.

Each project will have a generation capacity between 500 MW to 600 MW.

This announcement follows the successful tendering of OPWP’s first utility scale solar IPP (Ibri II Solar project of capacity 500 MW), which was awarded in April 2019 with targeted commercial operation date of June 2021.

The procurement of Manah Solar I and Manah Solar II IPPs are in support of the Government policy to encourage the use of renewable energy to meet the growing demand for electricity in Oman.

The two projects will be built, owned and operated by the private sector and the scope of the projects includes financing, procurement, engineering, construction, operation and maintenance.

Each project will be expected to attract investment of multiple hundreds of million dollars.

OPWP planned that the award of the project will be in Q3 2020 and the projects are to be commercially operational by Q4 2022

The submission date for the qualification document is 26 August 2019.
