Grupo Maessa secures a contract of $ 11.9 million for Rafeah-2 115/13.8kV Substation

Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) awarded the contract for “Reinforcement of Rafeah-2 115/13.8 kV Substation”.

The project location is in Rafeah, eastern Region of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The project has been awarded to  Grupo Maessa Saudi Arabia Co. Ltd, a subsidiary of Spain based construction company, Grupo Maessa. 

The value if signed contract is SAR 44,800,000 (1$=3.75 SAR). 

Earlier, during November 2019, a total of seven bidders has submitted the proposals. Upon technical and commercial evaluation, the project has been awarded to contractor.

Project Description:

The project scope of work includes the following major material:

Rafeah-2 Substation:

• Three (3) bays of 115kV Gas Insulated Switchgear
• 13.8kV Switchgear
• 500kVA, 13.8kV/400-230V Station Service Transformers
• HV, MV Power Cables and Terminations,
• AC/DC Auxiliary Power Supply,
• Surge Arresters,
• Control/Protection System,
• Substation Automation System (SAS)
• Communication System
• Fire Detection/Alarm and Safety and Fire Protection System
• Civil/Structural works and Mechanical works

Project scope of work also includes Installation, testing & commissioning of 50/67MVA, 132/13.8kV power transformers. The material will be provided by SEC.

Additions/modifications of Protection, Control system at Ash Shumlul-2 Substation is also part of the contract.

Qaryat Al Ulya Substation

• One (1) bay of 115kV Gas Insulated Switchgear
• 13.8kV Switchgear
• 20MVAr STATCOM
• Control/Protection System modifications/Additions
• Substation Automation System (SAS) modifications/Additions
• Communication System modifications/Additions

The Contractor shall perform on Lump sum turnkey basis, the design, engineering, materials procurement, quality management, factory inspection/testing, transport and delivery to site, installation, construction, site inspection, testing and commissioning, all associated work and services until final handing over of new substation work in a satisfactorily working and operating condition.

Contractor needs to achieve the final acceptance of the works by 27 months from Contract Signing Date.
