Oman awarded $654 million Adam-Thumrait dualisation road project

Oman’s Ministry of Transport and Communications awarded project” Construction of  three sections of the Adam-Thumrait dualisation road – Part 3, 4 & 5”.

The total value of signed contract is OMR 251,479,642.(1 OMR = 2.60078 USD)

The total length of the Adam to Thumrait Road project is approximately 717.689 km including Part 1 & 2 under construction.

The remaining length for the proposed project is approximately 400 Km and it is divided into Parts 3, 4 & 5, which is to be constructed as new two-lane road adjacent to the existing road. The new road together with the old road forms the 4-lane dual  carriageway.

  • Adam – Thumrait Road, Part – 3 – 132.5km
  • Adam – Thumrait, Part – 4 -135km
  • Adam – Thumrait Road, Part – 5 -132.5km

Adam – Thumrait Road, Part – 3 :

Ministry signed the contract of value OMR 73,999,505.

Earlier, During January 2020, Ministry received the proposals from a total of eight bidders. Oman based Construction Company, Ghantoot Transport and General Trading LLC has submitted the lowest bid. (read more)

The Part 3 comprises the carriageway from Haima to Muqshin, of total road length 132.5km.

It includes construction of sixteen (16) At-grade U-turns, service roads, 4 rest areas, 2 weigh stations, 21 lay bays, 8 emergency median openings, 22 ROP parking, approximately 115 reinforced concrete box culverts for cross drainage and 88 pipe  culverts for median drainage, median dykes and embankment protections.

The Part 3 also includes the reconstruction of existing road at wadi locations and removing part of the existing road, protection works and culverts and providing new multi cell box culverts at existing floodways locations.

Adam – Thumrait, Part – 4:

Ministry signed the contract of value OMR 115,045,774. The Project has been awarded to Galfar Engineering & Contracting SAOG .

Earlier, during January 2020, Ministry received the proposals from a total of six bidders. Oman based Construction Company, Galfar Engineering and Contracting has submitted the lowest bid.(read more)

The Part 4 comprises construction of new carriageway from Miqshin to Duka, of total road length 135km.

It includes construction of 16 At-grade U-turns, service roads, 3 rest areas, 25 lay bys, 8 emergency median openings, 25 ROP parking, approximately 241 reinforced concrete box culverts for cross drainage and 95 pipe culverts for median drainage, median dykes and embankment protections.

The Part 4 also includes the reconstruction of existing road at wadi locations and removing part of the existing road, protection works and culverts and providing new multi cell box culverts at existing floodways locations.

Adam – Thumrait Road, Part – 5:

Ministry signed the contract of value OMR 62,434,363.

Earlier, during January 2020, Ministry received the proposals from a total of eight bidders. Oman based Construction Company, Oman Gulf Company has submitted the lowest bid.(read more)

The Part 5 comprises the carriageway from Duka  to Thumrait, of total road length 132.5km.

It includes construction of 20 At-grade U-turns,service roads, 5 rest areas, 1 weigh station, 16 lay bays, 8 emergency median openings, 25 ROP parking, approx. 101 reinforced concrete box culverts for cross drainage and 110 pipe culverts for median10 pipe culverts for median drainage, median dykes and embankment protections.

The Part 5 also includes the reconstruction of existing road at wadi locations and removing part of the existing road, protection works and culverts and providing new multi cell box culverts at existing floodways location.

The project completion period for each of the part is three years apart from a 90-day mobilization period.

Parsons International & Company LLC is the consultant for the Ministry of Transport in the tendering and supervision of the Adam-Thumrait road dualisation project.
