Linklaters appointed as Legal Consultant for 7GW Taiba and Qassim IPP

Global law firm, Linklaters appointed as legal Consultant for Saudi Electricity Company (SEC)’s two large gas-fired independent power producer (IPP) projects, which will be located in Taiba and Al-Qassim.

The projects are both scheduled to have a capacity of 3.5GW.

Earlier, during February 2021, SEC appointed Fichtner GmbH as Technical Consultant (read more) and Cranmore as Financial Consultant (read more) of the project.

Earlier during 2015, SEC planned to develop a large project in Taiba with a capacity of 3,780MW integrated solar combined cycle (ISCC) project.

The project was tendered as an EPC contract, however, later the tender was cancelled.

Fadhili IPP was the latest project that, SEC awarded to Engie. The capacity of the project is 1.5GW. The project was jointly tendered by SEC and Saudi Aramco, with SEC as offtaker for electricity and Aramco the offtaker for steam and water produced by the cogeneration project under 20-year Purchase Agreements. (read more)
